Neeraj Chopra: Neeraj Chopra, the javelin thrower from India, on 23 July 2016 won gold in the IAAF World Under-20 Championships in Bydgoszcz, Poland. With this, Neeraj, 18, managed to set a new world record (U-20) of 86.48m.
His 86.48m effort also helped India in bringing its first world record as well as the country’s first-ever gold in any World athletics championships.

Brazil: The World Health Organization (WHO) on 26 July 2016 declared Brazil free of measles. The step was taken after no case of the disease was registered in 2015.
Parveen Rana: India on 26 July 2016 named Parveen Rana as a replacement for dope-tainted wrestler Narsingh Yadav for Rio Olympics in the 74kg freestyle category. The Rio Olympics is scheduled to happen from 5 August to 21 August 2016.

Mahasweta Devi: Mahasweta Devi, a colossal figure in Bengali literature and a respected social activist, passed away on 28 July 2016 at Kolkata. She was 90.
International Tiger Day: International Tiger Day was observed on 29 July 2016. The day is held annually on 29th July to give worldwide attention to the reservation of tigers.
Pandit Lacchu Maharaj: Tabla maestro Pandit Lacchu Maharaj passed away on 28 July 2016 in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh. He was 72.
World Hepatitis Day 2016: World Hepatitis Day 2016 was observed across the world on 28 July 2016 with the theme Elimination.
ICC Cricket Hall of Fame: The International Cricket Council (ICC) on 27 July 2016 announced that Muttiah Muralitharan, Karen Rolton, Arthur Morris and George Lohmann will be inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame.

With the announcement, off-spinner Muralitharan becomes the first Sri Lankan player to be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
