GDP Estimates: The Central Statistical Office (CSO) on 31 May 2016 released the provisional estimates of national GDP for 2015-16. It pegged GDP growth at 7.9 percent in Quarter 4 of 2015-16 and 7.6 percent in the whole of 2015-16.
Ashok Lavasa: Senior IAS officer Ashok Lavasa was on 31 May 2016 appointed as the Finance Secretary. Lavasa, at present serving as the Expenditure Secretary, is a 1980 batch IAS officer of Haryana cadre.
1 June: Global Day of Parents: The Global Day of Parents was observed globally on 1 June 2016. The Global Day provides an opportunity to appreciate all parents in all parts of the world for their selfless commitment to children and their lifelong sacrifice towards nurturing this relationship. The Day was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly in 2012 and honours parents throughout the world.

Gotthard Base Tunnel: Switzerland on 1 June 2016 inaugurated Gotthard Base Tunnel, world’s longest and deepest railway tunnel. The tunnel is also the first flat low-level route through the Alps. It took 17 years and 12.2 billion Swiss francs to construct the tunnel.
Razak Khan: Razak Khan, one of the best comedians of Bollywood movies, passed away on 1 June 2016 following a cardiac arrest in Bandra, Mumbai. He was popularly known for his roles in movies like Hello Brother, Hungama and Hera Pheri.
India Post Payments Bank: The Union Cabinet on 1 June 2016 approved setting up of the India Post Payments Bank (IPPB) as a Public Limited Company under the Department of Posts, with 100% Government of India (GOI) equity. These banks will be established at an expense of 800 crore rupees and rolled out in the entire country in a phased manner. The IPPB will obtain banking license from RBI by March 2017 and by September 2017.
India – US MoU: India and the United States (US) on 2 June 2016 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation on energy security, clean energy and climate change.
The MoU will provide framework to work more closely not only for betterment of people but also for creating a positive environment for US companies working in India. 
Raghavan Seetharaman: Raghavan Seetharaman, Qatar-based Indian banker, on 30 May 2016 was awarded the Green Economy Visionary award. Seetharaman was honoured for his contribution in environment-friendly activities and for promoting green economy for nearly two decades.
Muhammad Ali: All-time boxing icon Muhammad Ali died on 3 June 2016 in the Phoenix, Arizona, after a 32-year battle with Parkinson's disease. He was 74.


Afghan-India Friendship Dam: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Afghanistan President Dr Ashraf Ghani jointly inaugurated the Afghan-India Friendship Dam with in Herat province in Western Afghanistan on 4 June 2016.
