The 54th Annual Grammy Awards: The 54th Annual Grammy Awards were held on 12 February 2012, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The death of pop diva Whitney Houston the night before the Grammy awards however cast a sombre mood at the awards.

New Bowling Coach: BCCI decided to sack Indian Team’s bowling coach Eric Simons on 13 February 2012. The ongoing One day tri-series in Australia will be his last assignment as the bowling coach of Indian Cricket Team. Joe Daves of Queensland will take the charge of new bowling coach.
21st Vyas Samman: Noted Hindi writer Professor Ramdarash Mishra was selected for the 21st Vyas Samman for his poetry collection Aam Ke Patte.

2011 US National Humanities Medal: India's Nobel Prize-winning economist Amartya Sen named for the 2011 US National Humanities Medal by the White House.
Lata Manageshkar award: Veteran Hindi film music composer Rajesh Roshan was honoured with the Lata Manageshkar award by the Madhya Pradesh government.
Andrew Symonds: The former Australia all-rounder Andrew Symonds has retired from all cricket with immediate effect.
Christian Wulff: Germany's president, Christian Wulff, who has served as head of state since 2010, has resigned after being caught up in a corruption scandal.
Sania victorious: India's Sania Mirza and her Australian partner Anastasia Rodionova beat Hao-ching Chan and Yung-jan Chan of Chinese Taipei to win the women's doubles event at the Pattaya Open.
Microsoft Website: In the latest case of website defacing in the country, software giant Microsoft India's retail website has been hacked, forcing the company to shut it down temporarily.
According to reports, the company's retail website, which sells Microsoft products, was hacked by a Chinese group called Evil Shadow Team.
Nancy J Powell: Nancy J Powell, a career diplomat with wide experience in South Asia, has been named by US President Barack Obama as the next ambassador to India, the first woman to be nominated for the coveted post.
