Package of $ 500 Million to Afghanistan: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh announced a fresh Indian aid package of 500 million US dollars for Afghanistan with focus on social sector, agriculture, capacity building and infrastructure projects.

Life Expectancy of Indians: According to the World Health Organization's health statistics 2011, the life expectancy of average Indian increased to 65 years in 2009. In comparison, an average Indian lived for 57 years in 1990 and 61 years in 2000.

Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO): For the first time, India has officially sought full membership of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), the central Asian grouping dominated by China and Russia.

  

Mahendra Singh Tikait: Farmer leader Mahendra Singh Tikait, who spearheaded several movements for peasants' rights in northern India, died  due to bone cancer. Tikait was the president of Bharatiya Kisan Union.

Supreme Court ban on endosulfan:  The Supreme Court on ordered a countrywide ban on manufacture, sale and use of the cheap and popular pesticide endosulfan citing its toxic effects on humans and environment.

Lobsang Sangay: He is the newly elected Prime Minister of Tibet government-in-exile.

Puducherry new Chief Minister: All-India NR (Namathu Rajyam) Congress founder-president N Rangasamy was sworn in the new Chief Minister of Puducherry.

Raghavendra Ramachandran: A 16-year-old boy from Chennai bagged the first prize in chemistry at the Intel International Science and Engineering Fair (ISEF), the world's largest international pre-college science competition. 

India & Uzbekistan partnership:  India and Uzbekistan announced strategic partnership between the two countries. They discussed issues like terrorism, Afghanistan and a greater cooperation within Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) that holds the key to peace and stability in energy-rich Central Asia. A statement issued after the meeting between PM Manmohan Singh and visiting Uzbek President Islam Karimov said the two countries signed 34 pacts, including those in the field of IT, pharmaceuticals and hydrocarbons.

GSAT – 8:  India's advanced communication satellite GSAT-8 was successfully launched into its geosynchronous transfer orbit by Arianespace's launch vehicle Ariane-5 from Kourou in French Guyana. Weighing about 3100 Kg, GSAT-8 is configured to carry 24 high-power transponders and a two channel GPS-aided GEO Augmented Navigation (GAGAN) payload.
